Spanish Days - The Grammar Rules
When talking or writing about the days of the week in Spanish, there are some slight changes and grammatical differences to the structure of the English language:

Saying and writing the days in Spanish:

  • To ask what day it is today in Spanish, say: Qu da es hoy?

There are some differences to the English language when discussing the days of the week, or the day and date of the month, in the Spanish language, the differences can be clarified using the following examples:

  • Tuesday the 2nd of December becomes 'martes dos de diciembre'

  • On Sunday becomes 'el domingo'
  • On Mondays becomes 'los lunes'

Use of capital letters in Spanish:
Capitalization of the first letter of each day is used in the English language, for example Saturday. This same grammar rule does not apply in the Spanish language as the first letter of each day does not begin with a capital letter, for example sbado. Please refer to the examples and the list of Spanish Days above for clarification.
